Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), informally VIT University, formerly Vellore Engineering College is a private deemed university institute located in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India. Founded in 1984, as Vellore Engineering College, by G. Viswanathan. The institution offers 20 undergraduate, 34 postgraduate, four integrated and four research programs. It has campuses in Vellore, Chennai, Bhopal & Amravati in India.
VIT admits students on the basis of merit through an online entrance exam. VIT organizes its own entrance exam, called the Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE). It is conducted every year in the month of April and May.VIT offers academic programs in Engineering, Technology, Applied Sciences, and Management. It offers 20 undergraduate programs, 34 postgraduate, four integrated MS courses, and four doctoral programs. VIT consolidated its disciplines into 10 Schools of Study with the addition of the VIT Law School at its Chennai campus.

VIT was ranked 801-1000 in the world by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings of 2021. The QS World University Rankings ranked it 271-280 in Asia in 2021.
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranked VIT 22 overall and 14 among universities in 2017.
Among engineering colleges it was ranked 13 NIRF in 2017, 5th by India Today in 2017 and 9th by Outlook India in 2017.
The VIT Business School was ranked 17 among management schools in India by NIRF in 2017 and 54 in India by Outlook India‘s “Top 100 Management Schools” of 2016

Candidate should have Pass in 2nd PUC/12th Std/equivalent examination with Physics & Mathematics as compulsory subjects. Obtained 50% of marks in aggregate in Physics, Mathematics and any one of the following subjects:
Chemistry/Biology/ Biotechnology/Computer Science/Electronics.
In case of candidates belonging to SC/ST and other backward classes( Category 1, 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B), the
minimum marks for eligibility will be 45% in aggregate in optional subjects in qualifying examination.

The candidate seeking for admission under management quota, Eligibility criteria depends upon the
college / university norms.
The percentage require for admission varies from colleges to colleges strictly under management quota.

Admissions in the Engineering courses is done through entrance examination. The admission to undergraduate programs is done through Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE Main).

Admissions through management / NRI quota.
All private colleges in India have some reserved seats allocated to them by the government defined as Management/ NRI quota.
These seats are given by the college on their own norms and eligibility. The colleges may charge capitation amount / development charges/ or increase in fees structure to give seats to deserving candidates. All colleges do have their own eligibility criteria, terms and conditions to give seats to respective students. The criteria and procedure varies from colleges to colleges.

Management/NRI quota is STRICTLY available only in private colleges. No government colleges is having Management/ NRI quota. Admission to the govt. colleges can done only through by clearing the entrance exams.
