Jyothi Nivas College
Jyoti Nivas College was established in the year 1966 under the aegis of St. Joseph of Tarbes. It is a minority Christian College which provides moral and spiritual values to its students and produce intellectually enlightened and socially committed young persons. The college is affiliated to Bangalore University and approved by NAAC and UGC.
Six Young peasant girls in the little village of Tarbes in France were divinely inspired way back in 1843, to a life of contemplation and prayer, the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Tarbes was thus born.
The sisters who arrived in Bangalore in 1882 worked in Bowring Hospital. On seeing that Education was the need of the hour for women in Bangalore, the sisters of the society started Jyoti Nivas College in 1966. Since then Jyoti Nivas has been imparting holistic education to young women. Jyoti Nivas Pre-University College functioning separately from the year 2001 is likewise in pursuit of the mission of the society of St. Joseph of Tarbes with the vision of communion, Service and Excellence to turn out emotionally balanced, spiritually oriented, morally upright, socially committed and intellectually enlightened youth to serve the society.
We attribute the success of this mission to our dedicated academic approach and the assorted co-curricular and extracurricular activities that are successfully launched to enable our wards to configure their future. Every student is empowered to prove their mettle in life. This schooling and coaching for life, warmly embraces pupils from all sections of the society.
In these 175 years the strong faith, untiring zeal and selfless spirit of the sisters and the abiding presence of God has helped the society expand and spread extensively across the globe for ministering the society at large.
From those humble beginnings in the fields of Tarbes in France to the pinnacle of distinction in Bangalore, India, it has truly been a journey to the stars.
